This book is a collection of previously unpublished photos from Doshin So's private collection kept on file at Sohonzan Shorinji, photos published in the Nippon Shorinji Kempo Federation "Arhat" magaine as well as additional photos taken especially for this publication.
Of particular note on the photos included in this book is that all of the photos are action shots. When comparing posed photos with ones taken while in motion, important technical differences are seen in terms of distance, timing, using the movement of the opponent's own attack to off balance him, and the final form the technique takes. Though they may seem at first glance alike, posed photos and photos which grasp the essence of a single moment within a longer flow of movement are completely different in terms of the results. Herein lies the difficulty of using the medium of still photography to introduce Shorinji Kempo techniques. Some 6,000 photos were reviewed to select the 77 included in this collection.
