Daito Ryu Aikibudo: History and Technique is the first book to comprehensively show the roots, principles and techniques of this ancient art passed down directly from its last Soke, Takeda Tokimune and his most faithful and long-time students.

The book, written by one of the very few westerners to have ever studied on a consistent basis with Takeda Soke, Antonino Certa Shihan, features over 40 pages of never before published text directly written by Takeda Sensei about the history and principles of the School, including aiki, a great deal of original photographic material showing Takeda Tokimune Soke and Kato Shigemitsu, today's Soshi of the Nihon Daito Ryu Aikibudo association, and the other elder students of the late Soke (over 70 photos), a comprehensive technical view of all the art, including a glimpse of the most advanced catalogs of techniques like Aikinojutsu, Goshin'yo no te and Hiden Ohgi as well as Takeda-den Ono-ha Itto Ryu kenjutsu (over 220 technical photos).

The book also includes biographic profiles and ranks of all the major students of Takeda Tokimune Soke and a substantial translated selection of Takeda Sokaku's eimeiroku (registers) from the Meiji to the Showa periods.

Incredible

Couldn't be happier with this book. There's so much information on the history of DR and the overview of the art (as taught by Tokimune). It's important to note that there are many different schools of DR today. Certa trained under Tokimune's organization which focues on jujutsu, aikijujutsu, and swordwork (Ono ha itto ryu). What a great overview in both written text and photos of techniques. I think this book would appeal to any student of DR, Aikido, or anyone who just wants to learn about traditional Japanese martial arts.

Excellent

I don't train Daito Ryu but I enjoy reading about the histories and learning the techniques. I was very impressed with the depth of information here especially the in depth "eimeiroku" which is a list of all the important people that trained with Sokaku Takeda. I also really enjoyed reading the sections from his son, Tokimune Takeda. The technique section was very detailed. All in all, with all of the secrecy around Daito Ryu, this book seemed to be very open with sharing a lot of information. Very happy with the book and will be purchasing another for a friend.
