Sensei Paulson’s philosophy on Life is what I admire most about him…& He can kick butt as well! A True Master!

  • Jodyshealy

seems like a pretty nice guy.  and heaven knows he’s been at it a long time.

  • Chris Boado

Awesome interview from a Amazingly talented individual who has acquired knowledge from all areas of life. I am very inspired & particularly admire & completely agree with the 4 areas of life that need addressing starting with God above everything else and the fact that everybody needs to know how to say PLEASE & THANK YOU! I’d be honored if one day i can meet and train with the legend that is Sensei Paulson – thank you.

I had the pleasure of attending a seminar this year in California for Sifu Paul Vunak.  Erik Paulson taught a segment during the weekend.  It was amazing.  He was incredible to watch and meet.  His way of training and the beliefs behind it make him one of todays True Masters.  Thanks for the episode Budo Jake.  Also, since I mentioned him do think maybe you could do an episode with Paul Vunak.  I hope so!  Thanks!

    Thanks for watching!

I never realised Master Paulson was so Spiritual I have new found respect for him just for this and I totally agree with his phillosphy of manners, it never hurts to say please and thank you.  I hope to make it out to his Summer Camp once this recession in Irealnd is over and before I get to old.  I turned 40 tjhis year and have been training BJJ for the last 5 years (im currently a Blue Belt) but I trained in Traditional Kung Fu for 12 years previous to that.  I have always admired the JKD lineage and the way they have respect for all styles and systems.

  • Aaron

One of the best episodes I have seen so far. Rolled Up keeps getting better and better. I thought the episode with Braulio was the best. This episode with Erik just upped the ante! Thank you for making such an awesome show.

  • SchembriBlueBelt

WAR BUDO Jake  awesome stuff as always

  • Tnolanjstone

Not to sound disrespectful, but why has Erik put on so much weight?  It’s almost impossible to keep it on when you train as much as I’m sure he does…

  • Saungkh

Thanks so much for doing a interview with Erik Paulson, he is an incredible instructor!! One of the best interviews ever..

  • Francisco

Make an interview with Ricky Lundell.

  • Guest

What a douche! I don’t believe in god, I don’t pray, so I’m a bad person and you won’t roll with me? What a superstitious, bigoted a-hole this guy seems to be! I wouldn’t want to roll with him, not because he doesn’t know his grappling, but because I’m severly allergic to idiots! Open up a book, apart from the bible…(I bet he’s a creationist)

  • steve

eh a little too single minded for me, and you can tell his grappling isnt the most technical. You shouldve have tapped him jake, it seemed like you could have if you really wanted

  • Andrew

Jake, of all the guys you could have spent an hour with???

Not impressed with Paulson.  Fat, out of shape guy with sloppy technique.

  • Johnnymong

wow he really opened up i liked him before now i have even more repect for him.

  • Anthony

Erik is maybe not physically any more, what he used to be, fifteen years ago but he has a been an “icon” at the genesis period of mma, at that time it was called NHB/pancrase and so on. For this reason, among others, you have to respect him…

  • BUSHIDO

hahahahahaha sage your dog. Thats the key. Sage the dog and look at the eyes…hahahahahaha

  • Christina

You should do a rolled up with Cyborg.

    learned more listening than watching
a privilege to do so thank you

  • Easycase

So don’t roll with him “Guest”. I’m not at all religious either but everyone is entitled to their beliefs, and everyone is free to associate with the people of their choosing.  If you were so secure in your own beliefs then you wouldn’t be having an emotional insult tantrum about someone elses.  If you are threatened by his beliefs then you must by nature be a weak minded individual.  Grow a pair of intellectual balls and understand that you are free to simply disassociate from those you do not respect.  Weak.

Some great techniques but he should relax with the ridiculous “feeling people’s energy” stuff. It’s that kind of thing that led to the Salem witch trials. They thought these people were witches because they didn’t seem “right”. Hopefully he’ll start to realize that that’s all nonsense and get back to rolling with more people. Actually, id anybody seems like he has “bad energy”, it’s Erik himself. He seems uncomfortable and bossy. He has a Steven Seagal type “aura” to him. All that being said, I’d like not to judge him and wait to meet/get to know him better before fully judging him.
