This DVD set is a comprehensive treatment of classic Hanbo Jutsu. There are many excellent videos available today that other practitioners of the hanbo have produced, many of which have more modern applications, but the Tanemura videos are a great place to start, especially if one doesn’t have the luxury of a nearby dojo that teaches the hanbo. Even if one does have that luxury, these videos are a great reference source. I myself own two sets so that if one were ever to be damaged, I’ll have the other as backup.
It’s important to note that these were originally published as video tapes in the 90s, so even though the production value is very high, the video playback appears of lower quality than the 4k UHD videos that can be produced today. Even so, as I said, these were professionally produced and edited videos, not just some guy with a video camera, and so they hold up very well, and the information conveyed, through clear visuals and Panther Video’s classic slo-mo replays of techniques, is excellent.
