Part of the highly acclaimed "Nihon Kobudo Series", this video documents one of the most well known traditional sword schools of Japan, Yagyu Shinkage Ryu.
Yagyu Shinkage Ryu is a classical Japanese kenjutsu school (odachi, kodachi, nitto) and was the official kenjutsu style of the Tokugawa shogunate; derived from Shinkage Ryu. The school was founded circa 1568 by Yagyu Sekishusai Munemori (1527-1606), a student of Kamiizumi Ise no Kami (Shinkage Ryu). The life of his son Yagyu Munemori (1571-1646), teacher of the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, has been the subject of numerous films. The fukuro shinai (shinai in a leather bag) is unique for this ryu. Current headmaster is Yagyu Nobuharu.
