In The Blueprint For Modern Self-Defense, Burton Richardson brings his science-based philosophy of practical self-defense training to you. A leading instructor in JKD Concepts, Filipino Kali, Indonesian Silat and Thai kickboxing, a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and an elite level MMA coach, Richardson combines ancient warrior arts with the modern approach of Mixed Martial Arts so the entire gamut of street self-defense is covered. From gun and knife defense, to street kickboxing, street clinching, takedowns, and street ground work, nothing in the book is theoretical—everything has been repeatedly tested at 100% intensity against top MMA athletes to ensure that the techniques will work in a real world situation. Burton’s emphasis on only using what works goes beyond fighting proficiency. “You may never have to use your self-defense skills in the street, but the principles of success you learn through practical training can be used every day of your life.”
Burton Richardson’s main instructor was Dan Inosanto, the man Bruce Lee chose to carry on his art and philosophy of Jeet Kune Do. Richardson became an instructor after a decade of intense training. He traveled the globe learning martial arts and now teaches seminars worldwide. He writes a monthly column for Inside Kung-Fu magazine, is the author of three books, and has worked as the fight choreographer for films such as ‘Seven’. He lives in Hawaii with his family.
