Baguazhang by Jiang Zhuntsyao is one of the most famous books on Baguazhang in the history of the style. After its issuance in 1963, it was repeatedly reprinted both in China and abroad, and described there complex of Baguazhang is perhaps one of the world's most famous complex of this style.The author had published his book in a rather dificult for the development of Wushu historical period. People's Republic of China's communist government had embarked on a determined struggle against the survivals of feudalism and capitalism. Traditional Chinese martial arts were also called "remnants". The Chinese authorities allowed to study Wushu only in the form of recreational gymnastics. And only with such a form were allowed to publish literature on wushu.
Brief history of style is in the preface of the book. The first chapter of the book is devoted to parsing of the basic rules of Baguazhang. The second chapter is described the methodology of training and three stages of development of style techniques. The third chapter describes the method of training at three levels. In the fourth chapter there is the classification of the basic provisions of the palm Baguazhang, which runs along the lines of fashion in the first half of XX century, is undertaken an attempt to formalize the techniques of different wushu styles. In the fifth chapter is described the basic set of directions Baguazhang of Chang Chzhankuy.
For better understanding the material of the book was added by seven appendices. The first addendum provided by a brief history of Baguazhang. The second addendum collected from various Chinese sources, brief biographies of the masters of Baguazhang Chang direction Chzhankuya. In the third appendix is undertaken attempt to systematize the bibliography on traditional Baguazhang. In the fourth appendix is described the procedure for development Baguazhang. In the fifth and sixth additions there are translations of articles by leading experts in areas of Baguazhang Chang Chzhankuya that focus on specific aspects of basic Baguazhang training. In the seventh appendix is briefly described the operational use of Baguazhang basic techniques.
