This is probably the best jiu jitsu book ever written! I have read and own a lot a jiu jitsu books but none have been as in depth as this one and I can't think of any that have gone over much defense. The book is also one of the biggest books for the money at about 370 pages, and every one is outstanding. I think anyone beginner to advanced can use this book to better their game.

I been doing jits for awhile and I have bought MANY BJJ books and DVDs. This is by far one of the best books out there. If you are a student of BJJ this is your text book by one of the best teachers in the art. Definitely a MUST HAVE in your library.

Definately the BEST jiujitsu book ever written!!! Saulo is as detailed and methodical in his explanation of his technique as he is when he fights! He also shares some of his own views on the art. A great asset to the jiujitsu library. Buy it!!!

The philosophical way this book is written makes this perhaps the best jiu jitsu book I've purchased. It goes threw every detail of the technique and mistakes that should be avoided. highly advise anyone to get it.

I read many BJJ books and watched many DVD's for the past six years that I have been involved in BJJ. Saulo's material is among the best out there and his philosophies and teachings will help anyone from beginning to advanced.

I wish I could rate this book higher than excellent.

It rightfully deserves so!

Saulo Ribeiro goes through each technique step by step and detail by detail. not only does he go over techniques, but he goes over fundamental strategies for each position. He explains how to work posture, technique, and subtle movements into each section of the maneuver. The best book by far i have ever read.

Saulo obviously cared very much about the content of the book and also what he wished to impart. The bulk of the book actually focuses of "survival" or escapes. You name the position, attack, or defense, Saulo covers it -- even countering the X guard. The pictures are great as well as Saulo's own text.
It's easy to navigate and well formatted. Kudos to Saulo and his partner on creating a masterpiece on BJJ techniques, strategy, and principles.

The layout of this book is the best I've seen in a martial art book. The instruction is top notch and like me you'll probably find yourself going back to it before or after your BJJ class. An awesome amount of BJJ knowledge.

Excellent book. A solid structure, clear and detailed photos, clever method.
The best book on the market about BJJ and Ne Waza (groundfighting).
Without Nage Waza (Takedowns).

this book gave me a new look at certain aspects of my game, great book!!!!!

The most comprehensive book on BJJ out there! Whatever your current problemarea is on the mat, this book provides the solution. Allso, the way the book tells you what you should focus on related to your belttrank helps box in the the multitudes of moves and techniques in more convinient chunks. When one is new to BJJ the tendency to "bite over more than you can chew" is a pit that just about everyone falls into from time to time. This work will by be your compass to make sure you focus on the right stuff at your current level in years to come, all the way to the coveted Black Belt!!

This is by far the best instructional book of any martial art. Full color pages and multiple pictures and angles per move. Very helpful as a supplement to regular training.

Very good book with detailed information on just about every area in jiu-jitsu. Shows something from all the major positions covering everything from defense to sweeps to attacks to counters. Definitely worth having for every BJJ library.

Author: Shayne Barlow

This book is very comprehensive and logically arranged. My only complaint is some of the moves demonstrated leave you open to punches (side control with hand tucked in for example). Many of the moves and positions demonstrated are best suited for BJJ tournaments rather than MMA or self defense.

This book does not show you a thousand things, instead it focuses on a smaller skillset essential to the essential but often overlooked art...survival. Once you survive, you thrive. An excellent book.
