Note to all: Craig Gemeiner is MY Coach, a mate (Assi speak for a close trusted friend) and I instruct my students using the Gemeiner's Modified Vigny La Canne syllabus. As the Budovideos description of these DVDs is so exact I will dispense with repeating it and will focus on MY experience with this method. I hope that you, the reader, find something useful in my Review:

Objectively this DVD course is one of my favorites out of the many martial art videos that I own because it was produced specifically to INSTRUCT.

This is a very easy system to learn compared to the more common SPORT La Canne methods popular today in France and Italy today and unlike them this 3 DVD courses' content is proven historically to work in civilian, police AND in Military CQB contexts.

This method is the first subject that I share/drill with my students- incl. my elementary school aged students. They learn the combat fundamentals of footwork, timing and leverage and the consequences of a weak guard. Vigny La Canne skills overlap unarmed combat skills and ACCELERATE ones knife, bayonet fencing and modern saber fencing skills in MY experience.

Due to a severe accident I have had to rethink ALL of my martial methodology. As I can no longer freely move one of my arms I have dropped Arnis and Kali baston skills from my personal training in favor of Craig Gemeiner's more succinct La Canne methodology.

However, I still utilize some Eskrima dagger methodology in addition to the Mediterranean knife skills taught to me by such instructors as C. Gemeiner, the late Hank Reinhardt and others.

If you have a training partner, these DVDs and a few hardwood canes (I use and recommend the ones from WOODENSWORDSdotcom) you can learn and utilize this method of cane defence to protect your family, friends and very importantly... YOUR SELF!
