Authors:
John Heijmans completed the Catholic Academy of Physical Education in Tilburg. He received his master's degree in physical education in Oregon and his doctor of medicine degree from the University of Maastricht, The Netherlands. He has published on taekwondo in different professional journals and has also made presentations for coaches.

Willy Pieter did his doctoral work in sociology of non-western societies at the University of Leiden, The Netherlands and received his doctorate in physical education from the University of Oregon, USA. In 1981 he started the national taekwondo instructor's certification program in Holland. In Oregon he initiated the pilot study that eventually led to the Oregon Taekwondo Research Project.
