Dog Brothers: Kali Tudo Double DVD Set

Guro Crafty already had been a BJJ practitioner (Machado BJJ) for two years when the first UFC changed the martial arts world. He has stayed active with the MMA world since the early UFC backed off from its early interest in the Dog Brothers as a special weapons event because of the Dog Brothers being "just too extreme for the UFC".

The relationship with the UFC continued (he was a judge at UFC 10) as has the interest in MMA. Now 52 years old, Guro Crafty regularly works out at the "R1 Gym" (previously known as the RAW Gym) rolling and sparring with the high quality professional fighters there. (R1 Head Coach Rico Chiaparelli does a cameo to offer his thoughts on the material)

Most FMA players have heard "The motions of our empty hand are just like those of the weapons". Many have also heard the retort "Then why don't we see them in the Octagon?"

Mixed martial arts evolves quickly. After the coming of BJJ, Muay Thai made its appearance and so did the leg locks of shootfighting and sambo. Wrestlers contributed their top base skills to add ground and pound. Greco-Roman wrestling, by way of Randy Couture, spearheaded the clinch game. In this highly innovative cutting edge double DVD, Guro Crafty shows how to apply Kali-silat in the cage.

The MMA world may never be the same again!

This double DVD set shows "angular striking crashes". Subsequent volumes will address attacking the guard, strking from the guard, other aspects of the ground game and more.

Dog Brothers DVDs are awesome, but this one is a total waste of time.

I beg to differ! I guess that the views of previous reviewers had been influenced by their prior expectation of what they would get from theses DVDs.
If one is looking for a comprehensive MMA program instruction, that you should look elsewhere because these videos will not provide the essential skills and techniques you need for the MMA arena. I had couple of MMA fights myself and this is definitely not a good starting point.
However, if your doing your fair share of stand-up (kick)boxing, Muay Thaic and wrestling clinch stuff, along with adequate amounts of grappling AND you're doing some FMA on the side, than this is en excellent way to see how to incorporate some of those techniques in you already existing MMA game.
Also, if you looked at this as a standalone empty hand self-defense system (without associating it with the cage/ring) it certainly beats many others out there...

Alot of the concepts in the video are rudimentary. Bilateralism is exhibited in alot of arts. The footwork methods employed are basic to most forms of Kali/Silat. The concept of establishing a bridge is JKD 101, Wing Chun 101, Hsing I 101, Bagua 101, Kali 101, Silat 101 (well, you get the idea). This is definitely one of the poorest offerings I've seen on using Filipino Martial Arts with empty hands. I'd recommend looking at Steve Grody's or Ron Balicki's video series. The argument could be made that this is showing what works in actual empty-handed fighting, but its an extremely narrow and shallow survey of usable techniques.

LOL TERRIBLE! the "demonstration" of an "average MMA practitioner" who they dub "joe nhb" vs a kali practitioner is so rediculous its hilarious! the kali guy spends half his time with completly rediculous hand gestures while "joe nhb " isnt even in striking range. to give an example think of a kung fu movie. all the unneeded posing and stupid hand movementes that serve no purpose. ya thats exatly what the kali guy is doing during the "fight" with with the "average mma fighter" the average mma fighter is portrayed by another kali practitioner. ...they couldnt even organize a freindly sparring sesson with a local mma gym they had to havea kali guy pretend hes an mma fighter... ya the dog brothers need to make sure they never hav to fight without there weapons there lame sticks and knives because hand to hand it appears they r a joke.
