The 1st Kachin Martial Arts Exhibition is a remarkable view into a world rarely seen by outsiders. In November 2003, the Kachin people of Upper Myanmar assembled a diverse group of martial arts masters and practitioners for their first ever Burmese Martial Arts Exhibition. For two days, the audiences were delighted by over 35 colorful martial arts demonstrations from empty hand displays to weapons sets to unique and unusual inner power demonstrations.

The demonstrators showed diversity beyond their own indigenous Kachin martial arts by demonstrating Arakanese, Royal, Mon, Middle land, Chin and Ancient Royal methods. Since the Burmese martial arts are in great jeopardy of being homogenized into one controlled systematized method led by a single controlling government body, it is important that the vast and unique cultural methods survive into the future as they have been handed down for generations.

This limited edition DVD shot on location in Myanmar captures the energy and enthusiasm of a very young but distinct group of performers and encourages the further growth of cultural exchange between practitioners the world over.

Fantastic demonstration of a rarely seen Kachin Martial Arts!! Wish there was more available on the region's martial arts.

I was very disappointed in this DVD. It did not resemble any of the arts of Bando or Burmese kickboxing I had seen before, and seemed alot more influenced by Wushu and Chinese "ki" demonstrations. I wasn't thrilled with it.
