History of Judo DVD

Today millions of people practice judo all over the world, all because a frail young man named Jigoro Kano. Tired of his schoolmate's bullying, he decided to become an expert in samurai barehanded fighting. Kano started with several jiu-jitsu methods, eliminated the most dangerous aspects, and finally created a complete training system called judo, which soon became compulsory in the Japanese schools. Judo then started to spread in Europe, particularly in France, and then throughout the world, eventually ranking as one of the most popular sports. The History of Judo tells about an amazing human adventure with elements of mystery and legend - sprikled with the exploits of outstanding champions including the Japanese judoka Daigo, as well as Douillet, Geesink, Okano, Yamashita, Rouge, Nevzerov, Adams, and female athletes such as Berghmans, Deydier, Briggs and Restoux.

This DVD has old footage not seen in other videos for that alone it has value. I have a lot of historical Judo DVDs some are not so great but this one is worthwhile.

Im the kind of person who likes watching documentaries, and I also love Judo. This documentary is about the growth of Judo, mostly concentrating on the evolution of Judo as a sport and its beginning in the Olympics, and some Olympic champions. To be honest, I was really bored from the parts where they explained the evolution and growth of Judo in Japan and around the world, but when it got to the part where it started introducing the most notable champions of the sport, it went from boring to VERY entaertaining and VERY impressive. Id say about 20-25 minutes was boring, but the rest was very entertaining to watch, and I mean VERY entertaining. If you like documentaries and like Judo also, judging by the VERY cheap price, Id say youd be making a mistake not taking this.

For $15 this is a 5-star DVD. Not particularly long, but a steal value-wise. DVD is inspirational for current or aspiring judoka.
