I’d recommend this DVD set if you are looking for a solid introduction to the basics of self defense. In addition, if you are already a martial artist but you are unsure how effective your skills would be in a real situation, this video would be valuable. In my opinion, before you spend the many hours needed to perfect a form or develop the flexibility and balance needed for a head kick, make sure you have mastered fundamental self defense skills. This video set covers those fundamentals: body movement, strikes, kicks, grab/choke defense, falls, and throws (ground fighting is also covered, but only briefly). The presenter, Alain Burrese, teaches straight forward and realistic techniques, and often shows variations of these techniques specific to dealing with a larger and/or stronger opponent. The video and audio quality is very good, and the presentation is clear and well organized. Overall, this set is an excellent resource for learning fundamental self defense. In addition, it's helpful for identifying/filling gaps, if you have already begun to study martial arts.
