This DVD is really great. It may date from 1992, but it won't show as it is a professional shoot, with a wireless microphone and all. It was a low-tech shoot though (for Japan anyway), so don't expect film quality.

Let's be frank here: you won't learn a myriad of techniques. But this is for your own good. What you will learn, as your first foray in Tamiya-ryu iaijutsu is "how hard it really is to use a sword". You will do that by practicing two fundamental kata, shin no tachi (tatehiza) and makkou giri (tachiai). Through these two kata you will also learn many technical points like ukimi (not ukemi!), ichimonji-goshi, noutou, etc.

Of course, you must know Japanese if you want something from this video, especially since Kuroda-sensei talks quite a lot.
