Shihan Funiakoshi takes you from lowest of the high belts required kata of HEIAN GODAN (for 5th kyu violet belt) to KANKU DAI (1st kyu brown belt), after which you will be on the threshold of Dan (Black Belt). The only thing that dates this DVD as a transfer from VHS is the use of slow-motion. Which in the video tape era made it easy to watch the breakdown of moves; it isn’t necessary in today’s DVD frame by frame technology. This being the only drawback in my opinion, this is a great refresher library for one who knows Shotokan and a fantastic tool for the novice who will benefit immensely from having an instructor only a “press play” away.
