Soke Hatsumi demonstrates the use of many wooden and lethal looking iron staffs used unconventionally to capture weapons or ensnare the opponent. Using a 6 ft oak staff as a basis, the correct grip and 9 postures are shown together with a variety of blocks, strikes and spinning drills practised in response to staff and sword strikes. There are 25 techniques from the Kukishinden Ryu sabaki no gata and three techniques from each of the shoden, chuden and okuden forms giving a full range of drills for beginners to advanced practioners.
