Ground fighting techniques were not covered in this series or else it could be a very good output.

I own the Vol 2: Wristlock Takedowns, and I plan on buying the whole series.

PROS:
I really like the fact that the "bad guys" are non-compliant and resisting on this DVD. You certainly don't see that in a typical aikido instructional.

On DVD #2 Dye uses just one wristlock in the majority of the defense situations. That is good thinking, because a limited number of techniques is more realistic under stress. Ofcourse the interesting part is seeing the specific situations where this lock is effective.

Dye uses a distraction (a face-slap), which is important in real life applications of many aikido techniques.

Slow-motion for detail study.

CONS:
Each technique is repeated over and over again. The rewind button would have been a better alternative.

Little explanation of what makes the locks work. (It wasn't before I saw the basics of Small Circle Jujitsu, that I was able to make this work consistently and on bigger guys).

He likes it!

This isn't a martial art series.
It's specifically a police control & restraint series dealing with common assaults encountered by police officers on the street.

The techniques are very basic. In the whole series, only about 15 techniques are utilized.

The assaults (attacks) are realistic and cover the broad spectrum of assaults a police officer would face.

Videos 1-2 deal specifically with single-hand grabs. Video 3 deals with more grabs and includes a downward strike and straight thrust defense. Video 4 deals with double hand grabs and includes five pressure point techniques (that hurt!) Video 5 is sidearm retention, video 6 deals with knife, hand-gun, and shot-gun disarms. Videos 7 & 8 deal with other miscellaneous attacks like a rear choke & rear two-handed grab. I liked the come-alongs on video 8.
Every defense response is very simple, effective & safe (except one hand-gun disarm that had the muzzle pointing very close to one's torso). Every defense response ends in a safe control (handcuff or suspect at gunpoint).

Yes, there's a lot of repetition but it's reasonable.

Though the attacks are common, this is essentially a video for law-enforcement personnel and a good one. I'm pleased with the methodology, techniques & instruction. This video will help you do your job and keep you alive and safe!

I don't undertand how someone can like this DVD. I'm disappointed.
