What a guy. He won’t roll with a student who goes to the strip club? But if he does, he wants to beat him up?!

My opinion of Paulson just plummeted. I mean, stripclubs, fine they can be shady… But he categorizes ‘negative’ people as those who don’t believe in God or don’t pray? That’s absurd. What does it matter to him slow brain whether or not someone believes in his God or feels they can communicate with them through thought or not?

I try not to judge people, but if believes HOLY WATER is going to wash off this negative energy… then I guess I shouldn’t have expected anything intelligent to come out of his mouth.

I normally don’t really reply here but I’ll make an expectation this time (yes, I know big deal :p )

I will try to be friendly so this can become a little more constructive. I personally think it’s wrong what Erik Paulson does. He refrains from rolling with people based on religion and I think peoples respect for him as a martial arts master (wich he offcourse is) clouds their opinion about this.

It’s an easy step to compare this with muslims who refrain from doing somethings because of their religion. An example can be that women need to wear a burqa yet people make more a fuzz about this then about Erik Paulson’s believes. They are based on religion and not science and even then the excitense of negative energy that gives you nightmares isn’t something mainstream christian. It isn’t mentioned in the bible (as far as i know off. I could be wrong offcourse).

The REAL problem here is that Erik Paulson deliberately puts him in a position where he is a teacher and needs to touch people on a daily basis. An example would be better, i think.

I’m a 21 year old college student who loves grappling and like all college students i go to parties. I was sorta christian (In school and those stuff) raised but i don’t consider myself christian. So if i go to Erik Paulson (who I respect because he IS a master) and take lessons there and I have a question like “could i try this move with you because i’m not getting the feel of it” or that i’m feeling that i’m doing something real subtle wrong. He is going to refuse this because i don’t practise christianity? I think that is (and sorry for the strong words) quite disrespectfull. Simply because i don’t have the same lifestyle as him?

He talks about Bushido wich comes from neo-confuciasism, shinto and buddism (i googled it :p ) yet he is upholding these “christian” believes about negative energy. The reason why i drag this in the conversation is that his “christian” believes are on one hand very extreme (refusing to roll with people who don’t pray) yet he practises “Bushido” wich is in direct contrast with the bible (Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Exodus 20:1-17)
I understand that you can chose the people who you surround yourself with but as a instructor you have a responsibillty (in my eyes) towards the students you have and i find it very sad that something as “believing to get negative energy from people who don’t pray” refrains him from doing his job as an instructor.I hope I didn’t offend someone and i’m open for a debate. I don’t know Erik Paulson this good so I could be entirly wrong about this. I also apologize for any typo’s or grammar errors. English is not my native language (it’s my 4th) and i suck at writing.

Some great techniques but he should relax with the ridiculous “feeling people’s energy” stuff. It’s that kind of thing that led to the Salem witch trials. They thought these people were witches because they didn’t seem “right”. Hopefully he’ll start to realize that that’s all nonsense and get back to rolling with more people. Actually, id anybody seems like he has “bad energy”, it’s Erik himself. He seems uncomfortable and bossy. He has a Steven Seagal type “aura” to him. All that being said, I’d like not to judge him and wait to meet/get to know him better before fully judging him.

So don’t roll with him “Guest”. I’m not at all religious either but everyone is entitled to their beliefs, and everyone is free to associate with the people of their choosing. If you were so secure in your own beliefs then you wouldn’t be having an emotional insult tantrum about someone elses. If you are threatened by his beliefs then you must by nature be a weak minded individual. Grow a pair of intellectual balls and understand that you are free to simply disassociate from those you do not respect. Weak.

Erik is maybe not physically any more, what he used to be, fifteen years ago but he has a been an “icon” at the genesis period of mma, at that time it was called NHB/pancrase and so on. For this reason, among others, you have to respect him…
